Nakiska ski area in Canada has announced it will open this weekend on Saturday, 29 October 2011 after a swathe of resorts around the world have reported fresh snow and early openings.
The closest ski area to Calgary will open 10 new runs this winter in the Monster Glades. Lake Louise aims to open a week later on November 5th.
The biggest new snowfalls of the past 24 hours have been reported in Colorado where already open resorts like Arapahoe Basin, Loveland and Wolf Creek have received up to 30cm (a foot) of new snow and things are looking good at others like Breckenridge (opening November 11th for its 50th season), Copper (opening next Friday 4th November) and Winter Park (pictured) which will all open in the next few weeks.
There has been fresh snow in the Alps too and Switzerland's Laax is opening its Vorab Glacier too five weeks before the official opening date of December 3rd, this Saturday, 29 October 2011.
"Following decent snowfall over the past few days combined with a sunny outlook conditions are set to be prime." said a resort statement. The lifts up to the glacier will be open every weekend until December.
